Road Trip To Uttarakhand in a Suzuki S-Cross. Leg 1 Mumbai To Delhi 1500Kms in 24 Hours
That day was finally here,
I hadn’t really imagined to be doing this .. but there we were.. doing just that 🙂
Leg 1 of this epic adventure was finally under way.
we left home in goregaon by 3:30pm and were on the western express highway shortly. Now no one really expects traffic at this hour ..
but then again we are in Mumbai ..
Trafuckked Hungry and Excited .. one way or another this had to happen ..
Finally we were on NH 48 by 5:30
We took our first halt a little before vasai majorly to tank up witg diesel .. and grab a bite.. in the excitement of this journey none of us bothered having lunch.
The western express highway merges on to NH48 .. It was a 6 hour drive and we would cover 400+ km to touch Halol in Gujarat.
Now I had been told that the highways in Gujarat were next level .. sadly we werent to experience a this brilliance while on our way to delhi..
Days are longer than the nights in the month of march and this meant that it would be 7 ish by the time the sun sets.
That was a good thing because of 2 reasons
1. It meant we would get more day light time on the road.
2. we were witness to an extended and crazy sunset visual.
The sun was down by now and Night had set in.
We had crossed into Gujarat by 7:30 .. and were done with Vapi, Valsad and Bharuch in that sequence.
The strategy for taking halts was fairly simple in our heads. We looked for Cafe Coffee Days along the way for the simple reason that we were assured clean wash rooms.
We got one on the highway close to Vapi and another one Near Bharuch.
We planned to reach Halol by Midnight.. which we did, but post that and thanks to Google Maps impeccable sense of direction we got into a little soup shortly thereafter.
ideally we should have been at udaipur around 4 AM but given the circumstance we only made it there a little ahead of sunrise .. at around 6:30 AM.
Truth be told I do not have too much footage of the Night Drive, because we were majorly focussing on getting our selves out of Gujarat.
It was morning now and we had finally entered the royal state of Rajasthan, for a good 150km stretch from udaipur there was only a single lane road which we were told is the Highway .. and every bit of that road was scenic and very enjoyable to drive on only because there wasnt too much traffic.
Any way we crossed that patch by 10:00 Am and it opened up into an incredibly flawless 4 lane express way. I was practically doing 140Kms per hour constantly and by 11:30 am, we were on the outskirts of Jaipur.
Now i really do not reccomend doing this distance non stop .. but i did end up driving non stop.
When we touched Jaipur, for a while we did consider taking a break and giving our bodies some rest .. but knowing that delhi was only 4 hours away gave us the energy to pull through.
Having gotten out of jaipur the roads again were nothing short of spectacular all the way up unto Fort Neemrana. we were there by 1:30pm.
Now having lived in gurgaon for a while and because i had done a gurgaon jaipur road trip 5 years back i had it in my mind that we were not more than a couple of hours from gurgaon.
That by the way was my stupidest assumption because the distance that should have taken use a couple of hours ended up taking exactly double of that. The roads were ridden with potholes and to add to that there was a lot of traffic and to make things even worse people in haryana do not have the slightest of what one would call Road Sense.
So we entered into Gurgaon by 5:00 pm.. just in time for peak traffic ..
trafffucked all over again .. we got to our hotel by 6:00pm
After a pretty eventful 1400 Kms, all i really wanted to do was crash.
And that i did .. in style i must say .. because my wife here .. she managed to get us an upgrade to a Suite at the Double Tree by Hilton at Gurgaon.
